The digital world has become an inseparable part of our lives today: work, communication, shopping, and even daily tasks have all shifted to online platforms. But for elderly people, keeping up with this new reality is not always easy. Those who grew up without digital technologies often feel as though the world is racing ahead, while they are left behind.
However, the right educational programs can change everything. Initiated by the Internet Society Armenia Chapter (ISOC Armenia) and in cooperation with the Association for Ensuring Elderly Health and Care, the AITC/EIF Center organized a course titled “Enhancing Cybersecurity and Digital Skills for Elderly People.”
A total of 25 people participated, divided into two groups. For three months, they not only gained digital skills but also built confidence and independence. The most impressive was that even after the training ended, many continued returning to the center to check on their progress.
Participants learned the basics of cybersecurity — how to protect their devices, create strong passwords, and avoid phishing emails. They practiced using Gmail, Google Drive, WhatsApp, and Viber, and explored online shopping, banking transactions, and working with MS Office tools. In addition, they discovered how to apply technology in daily life — using maps, transportation apps, online delivery services, calendars, and even AI-powered tools.
Most importantly, the knowledge became immediately practical. Participants started using banking apps with confidence, staying connected with relatives online, ordering essential goods, and navigating the city with the help of digital maps.
The conclusion of the training turned into a real celebration: elderly people received participation certificates, while the sparkle in their eyes and their genuine smiles became the greatest reward.
Through our collaboration with ISOC Armenia, we strive to provide elderly ones not only with knowledge, but also with confidence and independence — opening new opportunities and contributing to a more inclusive society enriched with digital skills.
