In 2017, Armenia joined EU Code Week for the first time through the “Learn to Code! It’s Fun!” initiative organized by the Armenian-Indian Center for Excellence in ICT — AITC. The event was implemented by the Enterprise Incubator Foundation — EIF and supported by Google.
The event took place on October 21, 2017, at AITC in Yerevan, bringing together around 200 schoolchildren aged 9 to 17 from both Yerevan and different regions of Armenia.
During the two-hour workshop, participants were divided into two age groups. Children aged 9 to 13 were introduced to the basics of Scratch and created simple animations, while teenagers aged 14 to 17 learned the basics of HTML and practiced writing their first lines of code.
The workshop was followed by an IT quiz, where the most active participants received small souvenirs. The event concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony.

EU Code Week is a grassroots initiative that celebrates creativity, digital skills, and coding. Its goal is to make programming more accessible, visible, and engaging for people of different ages, helping them understand how ideas can be brought to life through code.
For Armenia, joining EU Code Week for the first time was an important step toward promoting computer science, encouraging interest in technology among the younger generation, and expanding access to practical digital education.
The Armenian-Indian Center for Excellence in ICT is a joint project of the Governments of Armenia and India, implemented by Enterprise Incubator Foundation and C-DAC. AITC provides IT, design, business, and soft skills training, as well as educational programs for children and teenagers.
Through initiatives like “Learn to Code! It’s Fun!”, AITC continues to support digital literacy and inspire young people in Armenia to explore technology, creativity, and innovation.
